Jake and Emma are getting married next July and we met up last weekend for their engagement session. In a word, it was inspiring! This amazing duo is young, but their drive and determination reveal wisdom and maturity beyond their years.
From my first interaction with Emma, she knew what she wanted. I was smitten with this couple from her first email, where she detailed the vibe of her wedding (boho romantic//praise hands!), her and Jake's career plans (future dentists!), and the kind of photography she was looking for (candid and genuine - hallelujah!). I was so impressed by the certainty with which she wrote and the clarity of her vision, and most importantly, how sincere and genuine she immediately seemed.
Her sweet personality is so immediately apparent: her smile comes easily and it lights up her entire face. I love that! She is just as fantastic in person and has been such a joy to work with.
And Jake - let's talk about Jake! He's a triathlete - guys do you know how hard that sport is?? I am amazed by anyone who can make it through a triathlon. Side note: for some reason, I had it in my head that he was a motocross racer and said something about that at the beginning of the session. They both looked at each other and then at me like I had three heads! Don't know where that came from *shrugs*
Anywho...I was so pleasantly surprised by how comfortable Jake and Emma were together in front of the camera. They were total naturals. And even better, their friendship was so apparent from the moment we got started. Emma met us right after she got off work (guys, I DEFINITELY don't look like that right after work - she's stunning!) and they chatted about their days and about the upcoming semester in between snaps. Everyday conversation, but it was so refreshing to see two young people who obviously care so much about the simple things, like how the other faired that day. Over time, I've come to believe that these really are the big things: continuing to care about the other's day, complimenting one another on little things, thanking each other for opening the door - when these simple things become status quo, it seems that it's much easier to weather the storms that do come. They are the glue that keeps it all together and Jake and Emma exemplified these elements.
I am SO happy to be along for the wedding ride with these two and can't wait to see what life has in store for them. Scroll on through for some golden hour goodness!
