I've known Pam since shortly after I moved to Bozeman. She was one of my first friends and also one of my first clients as I was getting serious about photography. I've had the pleasure of taking her photos for a few years now, but I've also gotten to know her as a friend and as a coach: she prepped me for my first NPC bikini competition last year and in the process, secured a spot in my life as one of the most supportive, encouraging, and wonderful people I know.
Over the last year or so, I've gotten to know her sweet, funny family better, too. We met up last night to take some family photos and these four are a freaking riot. As we started, Pam cautioned everyone: "NO smolder!" She's cool though so she let them get away with a little smolder ;)
One of my favorite things about this particular session is that it captures each of these four simply as they are. Pam told them to wear exactly what they wanted to wear: nothing contrived, not put together with the specter of the "mantle photo" in mind - just them at this stage in their lives. With the exception of a couple "nice" photos, everyone was simply themselves, goofy, spunky, sassy, and awesome. While I love perfectly coordinated wardrobes and perfect shots, even more than that, I love being able to freeze a moment as it really exists. I want them to be able to look back on these 20 years down the road and remember what this time in their lives looked like and all that was great about it, and nothing shows that more than simply letting people be.
